Are You Ready for Productive Griefbusting in the Workplace?
Once again I'm reminded of how lingering grief sits heavy on many people's minds and bodies, hearts and souls; and yet this hulking ghost is often barely recognized in a "TNT" - "Time, Numbers, & Technology" - driven and distracted world. Actually, this psychic specter has the potential to both trigger volatility and be emotionally draining; its energy-consuming presence not only flies under our psychological radar but, not surprisingly, often escapes rational understanding.

OCD and College Accommodations
An interesting article recently appeared in the Wall Street Journal. "A Serious Illness or an Excuse" is worth reading and talks about what is happening on college campuses across the country: The number of students requesting accommodations has skyrocketed, and more of them than ever have some form of documented mental illness. Are You Harming Your Children Through Praise?
What if I were to suggest that praise and encouragement might actually be harmful to your child? Professionals who need an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for a private practice have a number of options, and the trick to finding software that works for the individual practice is settling on one of them. My advice is to get a list of as many products as possible with a little information on each of them off the web and read it. Then, narrow the field to a half-dozen or so based on initial research and check their web sites out.

An Interview with Gregory Murray, Ph.D. on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)
Professor Gregory Murray, head of Psychological Sciences and Statistics at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, discusses some of the ins and outs of the American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, known as the DSM. He's the editor of the forthcoming book, A Critical Introduction to DSM, which will be published by Nova Science, which aims to develop an appropriately skeptical attitude to the use of the dominant psychiatric taxonomy. Dr. Murray discusses that he believes the DSM has certain biases in it and certain tendencies. He believes it's very useful to take a step back and say, "Well, who wrote the book, what's the aim of the book?" And once you've done that, you're starting to get a better sense of how the manual works.
